About Leon Fletcher

I am a huge Nintendo fan, hence why NintyBuzz exists. I especially love all things Zelda and Metroid. NintyBuzz was started by me back in the Summer of 2014, it started out mainly as a hobby, though the site has gradually grown, and I hope it grows for many years to come!

E3 2018 – A Reflection

It’s now been just over a month since E3 2018 came to a close. Now that I have fully rested from late nights (among other activities outside of E3) I believe it would be a good time to reflect on this year Electronic Entertainment Expo.

From EA’s unenthusiastic kickoff, to Nintendo’s extensive Smash Bros. reveal, you can find out what I thought of E3 2018, after the break. Be warned, the following will be in depth

REVIEW – Runbow (Nintendo Switch)

‘If you can’t see it, it doesn’t exist’, in real life that message holds no value, in Runbow, it means everything. The frantic, multi-coloured multiplayer game that debuted on Nintendo Wii U is back once again, this time on Nintendo Switch. Get ready to run, jump, and punch in this multi-coloured package of fun anytime, anywhere, with anyone!

Is Runbow a rainbow dash of fun, or is it more dull than being stuck in the Dulux store? Find out in our review, after the break!

REVIEW: Mario Tennis Aces

Just in time for the Wimbledon season, Mario and friends hit the courts on Nintendo Switch in Mario Tennis Aces. This refined tennis experience comes packed with the usual tennis gameplay, plus a brand new adventure mode, which tells the tragic story of how Luigi became possessed by a most evil tennis racquet. True tennis meets the zany quirks from Mushroom Kingdom once again!

Does Mario Tennis Aces serve a Mario tennis experience without a fault, or is it just a backhanded bore? Find out in our review after the break!

Create and Win in the Nintendo Labo Creators Contest

In addition to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe receiving Nintendo Labo support, Nintendo of Europe had one more Labo related announcement today: the Nintendo Labo Creators Contest. One of my mostly highly rated features reviewed from the Nintendo Labo Variety and Robot kits was the ToyCon Garage. The ToyCon Garage allowed you to create your very own ToyCon with some mostly simple coding.

If you have had any brilliant ideas while playing around with the ToyCon Garage, it may be worth becoming your own Edison and making that idea a reality yourself. Nintendo of Europe are holding a special contest where the best creators will win themselves a specially designed Nintendo Switch console that looks like cardboard… don’t worry though, we’ve been rest assure that the console will still not get soggy if you leave it out in the rain, though it still probably isn’t a good idea to do so anyway!

There are three different categories you can enter, which means there are three different ways to win:

  • Creations: Got an idea for your own original Toy-Con creation? Grab some cardboard sheets, dive into Toy-Con Garage and see where your creativity takes you – the sky’s the limit!
  • Customisations: Break out the pens, paints, stickers, stencils and anything you can find, and show us your one-of-a-kind customised Toy-Con designs!
  • Kids: In this category, children up to the age of 12 can submit an original Toy-Con creation or customisation. You can even get some help from a parent or guardian.

The submission period will take place between the 19th July 2018 and the 7th September 2018, but it still may be a good idea to start now so that you can submit your videos and photos ready for when submissions open next month!

You can find out more about the contest here. Happy creating and best of luck!

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Gets Labo Support

Back in April, Nintendo released the innovative Nintendo Labo kits. These kits allowed users to create a range of different cardboard toys for use with the software, as well as create their own inventions. One of the creations in the Variety Kit were the motorcycle handlebars.

Today, Nintendo released a brand new update for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe which allows you to get more immersed in the crazy karting action. You can now use the Motorcycle ToyCon to race your way through the tracks of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe! Once updated, just enable JoyCon support for each player using the ToyCon, and you’re all set.

Additionally, Nintendo also said that they will bring even more Labo compatibility to other titles in the near future, so don’t recycle those kits just yet!

If you still haven’t tried out either Nintendo Labo or Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, you can check out our Labo review here, and our Mario Kart review here!

E3 2018 – The Smashing Return of NintyBeats

Out of all the surprise announcements from E3 2018 this week, there is one I bet you definitely never saw coming… the return of NintyBeats!

For those unaware, a couple years ago I used to run a regular segment which existed solely to give appreciation to the musical history of Nintendo games. Without the music, a lot of games would loose so much of their charm and personality.

What’s a better time to revive the segment than with a preview of some songs featured in the upcoming Super Smash Bros. Ultimate? Prepare for auditory pleasure, after the break!

E3 2018 – Super Smash Bros. Invitational and Splatoon 2 World Championship Winners Crowned

Not only did Nintendo host the E3 Direct and Treehouse Live Day One yesterday, but they also hosted the finale of two prestigious tournaments: the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Invitationals and the Splatoon 2 World Championships.

It was a messy fight, but the squid squad all the way from Japan, GG BoyZ, inked their way to the top in the Splatoon 2 World Championships.

Playing as Mario, he travelled all the way from Chilie, and returned from the 2014 invitational to defend his smashing title, ZeRo claimed all the glory in the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate invitational!

Congratulations to both GG BoyZ and ZeRo on some riveting matches last night. If you’re like me, and didn’t catch the tournament live, you can view the entire stream below (skip to 4:24:00 if it doesn’t start from there automatically)!
