Octopath Traveler in the Spotlight

Square Enix’s Project Octopath Traveler took the third Spotlight in the Direct just gone. After having only a brief reveal amongst the crazy amount of hype back in January’s Switch Presentation, this title has been overlooked for a while… until now.

The stunning ‘HD-2D’ style sets it apart from many games, and despite the simplicity in its roots, the game is a graphical masterpiece (at least in this writer’s opinion) with the level of quality come to be expect of the company, and gorgeous CG effects through Unreal Engine 4.

Xenoblade 2 Direct info and releases!

Fittingly, the lengthiest section of the recent Direct was given to Xenoblade Chronicles 2, which is set to be one of the larger and more complex games coming to Switch. This Spotlight explained a bit of context for the game’s story and how the combat works, which has been extracted into its own video you can see here.

The entire thing is voiced over by Azurda the Titan, who is friend and landlord of the protagonist Rex; though Koizumi chips in at the end to announce the beautiful Xenoblade 2 themed Pro Controller and Collector’s Edition including a soundtrack CD, 220 page hardbound art book at metal case.

Nintendo Direct Summary: September 2017

Nintendo crammed new reveals and information for over 40 titles in last night’s Nintendo Direct. Taking the Spotlight segments were Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Project Octopath Traveler and of course, Super Mario Odyssey.

Some of the most notable reveals were from Bethesda as they are bringing DOOM and Wolfenstein II to the Switch with the former in Winter this year and the latter in 2018. On a more peculiar note, Minecraft is coming to the New Nintendo 3DS ‘soon’ but with no word on compatibility with other versions. (more…)

Nintendo 3DS Direct To Start Off September 2016

While spending my 21st birthday being rather lazy (to be fair, I did go to the Crystal Maze experience this past Sunday), I was informed that Nintendo will be hosting a brand new Direct on the 1st September 2016! This Nintendo 3DS focused Direct will go live at 3pm BST. The last Direct was way back in March, so it is nice to see a new one finally airing soon!

We aren’t completely certain what this direct will pertain, though we are told that it will be Nintendo 3DS focused. We were also told that plans on the NX and mobile will not be revealed. Perhaps we could see a new game announcement or two?

There will also be a North American version airing on the same day at 7am PT.

Pokemon Direct Scheduled For 26th/27th February

It’s been a good long while since we got to hype over a brand new Nintendo Direct, but the wait is finally over – as long as you have an interest in Pokemon, that is.

Nintendo have announced a new Pokemon Direct for February 26th/27th. In Japan, this will be on none other than Pokemon Day – the 20th Anniversary of the release of the games that started it all.

  • USA (PST) – 7AM, 26th February
  • UK (GMT) – 3PM, 26th February
  • Europe (CET) – 4PM, 26th February
  • Japan – (JST) – Midnight, 27th February
  • Australia – (Canberra) – 2AM, 27th February

Given the recent hype around the juggernaut series, as well as the length of time since the last release, the odds must be good that we’ll see a new main series title announced. But will that game be the almost inevitable Pokemon Z, or perhaps it could be the dawn of a brand new generation? There’s also a good chance we might hear more about the long awaited Pokemon Go, but of course we’ll have to wait and see.

And you never know, if a new main series game ends up as a launch title for the handheld portion of the NX, we might even end up getting that long awaited HD home console game. We can always dream…

Nintendo World Championships and more at E3

Yes, I know we are a bit late on this one, but after 25 years (I wasn’t even born back then) Nintendo are bringing back the Nintendo World Championships to coincide with their E3 presence. For the weeks leading up to E3 2015, Nintendo will be holding regional evens in North America for fans to compete to become the Nintendo World Champion 2015 at the Nokia Theatre, LA on the 14th June.

Not only will they have the Nintendo World Championships (which seems to have no love for other countries) but we can also expect to see their Digital Event, Treehouse Live streams and demos of Mario Maker at Best Buy locations.

Check out the entire press release after the break!

Splatoon Direct Announcements

Wasn’t that a short and sweet direct… well maybe not so sweet, those Inkling’s look very mischievous! Though the majority of the Direct was basically recapping information which we have heard before, there were still some very interesting information announced too.

Check out what they were after the break!
