REVIEW – Fitness Boxing 2: Rhythm and Exercise

Christmas is quickly approaching. Not only is it the time of year for sharing and caring (and we’ll definitely need some extra caring with the year we’ve had), but it’s also one of the only times of the year it’s somewhat acceptable to become a gluttonous pig… and I say this with a lot of experience. I mean, it’s a great way to insulate yourself in this blistering cold weather!

Of course, there comes a point where you may want to shed those extra pounds from all the turkey or chocolate, and Fitness Boxing 2: Rhythm and Exercise may be just the ticket with it launching only weeks away from the joyous event of the year. Will Fitness Boxing 2 become the saviour of that hibernation store, or will it add to that one gym membership which you only took advantage of for a week and have yet to cancel… come on, you’ve had it for two years now! Find out in our review, after the break!

REVIEW – Super Mario Bros. Game & Watch

To mark thirty-five years of their most beloved and iconic character Super Mario, Nintendo have released a commemorative Game & Watch system focused on the well-loved plumber as part of their celebratory efforts.

After receiving the Game & Watch, I couldn’t ignore the attention to detail they gave it on the packaging alone. The box comes with a plastic sleeve that protects the gold-coloured cardboard box, but rather than opt for a plain old plastic protector, Nintendo decorated the box with sprites and characters from traditional Mario games. From Goomba to King Bowser, Warp Pipes and ? Blocks, to Princess Peach and Mario himself, the sleeve itself sets the tone of this product before you even get your hands on it. Upon opening the box itself, there is a special thank you message within the folds.

Once I finally got inside after salivating at the epically designed packaging, I was able to check out its contents. The console is held within a cardboard inlay, and comes with a USB-C cable to charge the system, and detailed instructions. The console itself is protected by a plastic cover. For something with an RRP of £44.99, I am happy that Nintendo provides good protection for such a tiny product! But enough about the packaging, what about the system itself? REVIEW – Going Under

The indie game scene has had a profound impact on the gaming industry, allowing smaller developers to thrive, with lower-budget titles releasing in an industry often dominated by huge budget AAA releases. It has also allowed previously neglected and relatively unknown genres to prosper and find a new audience. Few genres have benefitted more than the rogue-lite which, along with 2D platformers, has become one of the go-to gameplay styles for many indie developers. Indie-darling Spelunky is widely considered to be the first game to coin the term rogue-lite but this genre has had some huge hits over the years, with the likes of FTL: Faster Than Light, The Binding of Isaac and Crypt of the Necrodancer proving to be hugely popular, with each putting their own spin on the rogue-lite genre. The latest developer to throw their hat into the ring is the brilliantly named Aggro Crab, with their first published game, Going Under. Yet in a world dominated by rogue-lites, can Going Under stand out from the crowd? Read on to find out.

REVIEW – Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit

Mario Kart is a beloved multiplayer series from gaming’s most well-known series. Every Nintendo platform since the SNES has had a version of Mario Kart in some form or another and has even branched out to mobile devices and VR arcades. The Nintendo Switch is a tiny bit different where, up until now, the console only has a port of a previous title rather than a whole new game. Enter Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit, not only is it the first brand new Mario Kart on Switch, but it also provides a unique new experience through the wonders of augmented reality (or AR).

Does Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit have what it takes to win glory over Rainbow Road, or is it worse than receiving a coin in first-place? Find out more in our review, after the break!

REVIEW – No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle

The original No More Heroes set itself a well-earned spot in the cult classic pantheon for its grindhouse aesthetic and harsh, often self-deprecating criticism of hardcore violence. A lot of this likely flew over the general audience’s heads as they saw the crass Travis Touchdown swearing and cutting down droves of faceless goons in a ridiculously over the top fashion. So a second go was in order, despite the previous game’s generally conclusive ending, which also now ironically teased that a sequel won’t ever happen. The United Assassin’s Association has now fully become the organisation that was only suggested in the first game, a ruthless entertainment industry leader in recreational killing for the masses. Travis now finds himself bound to a story he doesn’t want to be a part of in order to seek vengeance for the death of his best friend, let the bloodshed begin anew.

REVIEW – No More Heroes

Over the years, Nintendo has built itself a reputation for catering to the all-ages market, with even their more mature titles never really pushing anything beyond the teen demographic. This extends even into third party efforts, with many exclusives still being aimed at younger or general audiences. So to have a game come along where the protagonist’s first line of non-narration dialogue is a hard expletive right after he’s decapitated a pair of guards, blood exaggeratingly spraying dozens of feet into the air is both astonishing and also very exciting. Welcome to the brutal world of No More Heroes, where assassins fight each other to the death to attain the glorious ranking title of number one.

REVIEW – Pokémon Sword and Shield: The Crown Tundra

The Crown Tundra is the second part of Pokémon Sword and Shield’s Expansion Pass. In my earlier review, I covered the first section of this downloadable content for Pokémon Sword, with The Isle of Armor, an area of Galar that features a new wild area and a short story featuring a new Pokémon called Kubfu. This latest update expands the region further into a snow-swept environment, where you can explore Pokémon dens and encounter powerful Pokémon! This new region was confirmed to be based on Scotland, United Kingdom!
