SmashShot of the Day (8th August 2014)

For the past year, Smash Bros. Director, Masahiro Sakurai, has been showing off Smash Bros. glory by uploading a screenshot from the upcoming instalments for 3DS and Wii U nearly every day on Miiverse… that’s a whole lot of content for your eyeballs! Today Sakurai has a retro surprise… a VERY retro surprise!

zlCfzSRxjz0YZm9djd

“?Ba-ding!?”

If you turn on the 3D effect, it really looks like there’s a Game Boy inside the screen.

Yup, it’s a Game Boy, and if you turn on the 3D then apparently it looks like there is a Game Boy inside your 3DS [Game-ception much]. It is possible that this is a brand new stage, though Sakurai has yet to confirm this… also, the character sprites are quite different from their usual Smash Bros. one to fit in with the Game Boy theme.

Super Smash Bros. is set to be released for 3DS on the 13th September 2014 in Japan, 3rd October 2014 in Europe and North America, and a day later in Australia. The Wii U version is set to be released during Q4 2014.

SmashShot Of The Day (6th/7th August 2014)

For the past year, Smash Bros. Director, Masahiro Sakurai, has been showing off Smash Bros. glory by uploading a screenshot from the upcoming instalments for 3DS and Wii U nearly every day on Miiverse… that’s a whole lot of content for your eyeballs! Yesterday, Sakurai shoed us two new support Pokémon which appear from within the Pokéball item!

zlCfzSRICv0mhm5u8Z

Here’s what he had to say…

Victini and Xerneas are both support Pokémon. Victini’s Victory Star boosts the attack of whoever throws the Poké Ball, and also prevents flinching. Xerneas’s Geomancy increases the launch power of all fighters, but exceptionally raises it for whoever had the Poké Ball.

It seems these Pokémon don’t cause damage directly towards fighters, but instead will put effects on them. Victini will temporarily boost the users attack power as well as reduce flinching. Xerneas increases the launch power of all fighters, though the user’s is raised more so. Today’s picture shows off some of the Trophy Gallery from the 3DS version of the game!

zlCfzSRca1kyyVPZbA

And here’s his comment…

Here’s the trophy gallery for the 3DS version. You can rotate the trophies by drawing circles on the bottom screen. Super Smash Bros. Brawl had tons of trophies, but rumor has it that the 3DS version alone may have more than Brawl. Looks like the Dr. Wily that we made from scratch for the 3DS version is on his knees in disbelief.

As expected, you’ll be able to see the entire trophy on the top screen while looking at the information on the bottom. I expect you can use the Circle Pad to rotate the trophy, but you can also use the stylus on the bottom screen to do so. It also seems like there may be more trophies to collect in the 3DS Smash than the Wii U’s. Today is also a double feature as Sakurai shows us something new for the Trophy Gallery…

zlCfzSRcbMAX8ULwuf

Here’s something new–the trophy shop. If you’re having a hard time getting certain trophies, why not just buy them? They sometimes go on sale, too.

Now we can finally put the many coins we collect in Smash Bros. into good use with the brand new Trophy Shop. If you crave a specific trophy then you can just buy one by using the gold you collect in the modes of Smash Bros.; they also go on sale from time to time. If you walk more than you smash [strange people] then you can also use your collection of Play Coins to purchase trophies too. Play Coins can be collected by putting your 3DS system into your pocket and walking the day away. You get one coin for every 100 steps, you can collect 10 a day and you can carry a maximum of 300 coins.

Super Smash Bros. is set to be released for 3DS on the 13th September 2014 in Japan, 3rd October 2014 in Europe and North America, and a day later in Australia. The Wii U version is set to be released during Q4 2014.

Check Out Japan’s First Smash Bros. 3DS TV Spot

It seems that Japan has just got its first TV spot for Super Smash Bros. for the Nintendo 3DS, preparing Japanese gamers for its release on the 13th September 2014. It doesn’t really showcase anything new but it is still pretty fun to watch… and helps to build up your hype levels!

SmashShot of the Day (4th/5th August 2014)

For the past year, Smash Bros. Director, Masahiro Sakurai, has been showing off Smash Bros. glory by uploading a screenshot from the upcoming instalments for 3DS and Wii U nearly every day on Miiverse… that’s a whole lot of content for your eyeballs! Yesterday we were shown a look at the inclusion of an old Japan exclusive Nintendo game!

zlCfzSQe8rcGdTaYwQ

And here’s Sakurai’s comment…

In this Smash Bros. installment, this little guy is also making an appearance! I…don’t know his name, but he’s the Prince of the Sablé Kingdom. He’s from the Game Boy game Kaeru no Tame ni Kane wa Naru (translated as The Frog For Whom the Bell Tolls), which was only released in Japan.

It looks like another assist trophy, it’s definitely welcome that the development team are including characters from games which never saw a Western release… or at least didn’t for several years! But here’s another look at the trophy, as well as an explanation on what it does in combat!

zlCfzSQe9wY4lrCwoE

And here comes the explanation…

Here’s the trophy of the Sablé Prince. He transforms into a snake or a frog, and unloads multiple attacks on any opponent he catches. Keep attacking your foes when they’re trapped in his dust cloud.

That seems to be quite a devastating effect. Now onto today’s SmashShot where we get to have a peek at an extremely devastating weapon crafted by the gods/goddesses themselves!

zlCfzSQ0HAk8p4-4eU

Here’s Sakurai’s comment…

Look at these three radiant pieces… Yup, you guessed it! It’s another combinable item like the Dragoon-the Daybreak.

The powerful weapon from Kid Icarus Uprising makes a triumphant return in the new Smash Bros. Similar to the Dragoon, you have to collect all three pieces to unleash its almighty power… though there is something different about the Daybreak to the Dragoon…

zlCfzSQ0Hak5PE0DDa

This is what it looks like when all three parts are combined together. How powerful will its beam blast be? FYI, you can fire shooting items while moving backward and forward. Change direction by flicking the Control Stick or Circle Pad toward the back of the fighter.

Upon completion of the Dragoon, a reticle appears on screen to dispatch the other fighters to their doom. With the Daybreak, a reticle doesn’t appear, instead you are carrying it around with you like the ray gun… unlike the ray gun however, the Daybreak has immense power. If it is anything like the version from Kid Icarus, then a very well aimed shot can dish out many one-hit K.O.s!

SmashShot of the Day (31st July and 1st August 2014)

Damn, I’ve missed another day of SmashShots… oh well, more for today!

For the past year, Smash Bros. Director, Masahiro Sakurai, has been showing off Smash Bros. glory by uploading a screenshot from the upcoming instalments for 3DS and Wii U nearly every day on Miiverse… that’s a whole lot of content for your eyeballs! Let’s start with yesterday’s which was a stage announcement!

zlCfzSPRioIHoRLm3J

And here’s Sakurai’s comment…

Reshiram appears on one of the stages in the 3DS version! Zekrom and Milotic will appear, too. It’s close enough to the launch date, so I don’t have to describe this stage to you, right? The design of this stage is based off of the surroundings of someone’s castle.

Wasn’t Reshiram an on-again off-again troll-ish person from 3DS Buzz Forums? [he’s cool now though, so don’t worry] I never really got into Pokémon much [yes, I know, shame on me] but I can assume that when there’s Pokémon appearing on a specific stage, it has to be a Pokémon based stage right? After a bit of research, several fans speculate it is based off of N’s Castle from Black and White… though, personally, it reminds me more of a mansion from Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon!

And here is today’s SmashShots… yes, I used the ‘s’ plural inflection.

zlCfzSPk7VIPGxb5B3

What’s up with this bomb? This looks like the stadium for the Home-run Contest, but there’s no bat. Once you touch the bomb, it begins to count down. Give it enough damage and launch it at the right time…then once the bomb’s countdown hits zero…!!

Yes, it does look very much like the Home-Run Contest stadium, but don’t worry, this won’t be replacing it, though it does seem like an interesting variation. Nothing is better smashing a huge bomb to pieces before it blows up… which leads onto the next SmashShot which may be borrowing a theme from another classic mode!

zlCfzSPk7xwoE8XJDq

…It goes BOOOOOM! Not only will the blast destroy targets, but it’ll also cause a chain reaction by using shattered walls and bomb blocks–all of which contributes to you getting a high score!! This is a new activity that combines the concepts of Target Smash and the Home-run Contest–it’s called Target Blast! Your final score is the total you rack up over two rounds. Of course, your Target Blast scores contribute to your Global Smash Power, too.

Yes, Smash the Target, which debuted in Super Smash Bros for Nintendo 64, makes a triumphant return… or at least to a certain extent. It seems the point of the game is to smash the bomb towards the targets in an attempt to create a chain reaction, destroying as many targets as you can… Nintendo’s version of Angry Birds anyone? The scores from this mode will also be transferred to your Global Smash Power, the online ranking system for Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U!

Super Smash Bros. is set to be released for 3DS on the 13th September 2014 in Japan, 3rd October 2014 in Europe and North America, and a day later in Australia. The Wii U version is set to be released during Q4 2014.

Nintendo Outlines Wii U and 3DS Release Schedule For 2014

Every so often, Nintendo likes to give us a blowout of release dates, and it just so happens that we’ve got a new one.

Most dates are merely reitterations of those we heard about at E3, but there are a number of exciting games heading our way in the next few months – notably Fantasy Life, Smash Bros and Pokemon for 3DS alongside Bayonetta and Hyrule Warriors for Wii U. At the end of August, America will also at long last get their hands on the superb rollercoaster of emotion that is Layton vs Wright.

Splatoon, Zelda U, Star Fox, Xenoblade X, and Code Name: S.T.E.A.M. have all been confirmed for 2015, which should ensure that the games will keep on coming well into next year.

Check out the full schedule below!

Au144a0

There are several other interesting points to mention. Firstly, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker seems to have been delayed to Q1 2015 in Europe, though it still aims for a Holiday 2014 release in Japan and the US. Also, if you remember way back to 2013, you would have remembered a game called Brain Age: Concentration Training getting its release in Japan and the US, though the release date seemed to have disappeared for European territories. It now looks like the game hasn’t been completely forgotten by Nintendo of Europe as they have listed it but with an unknown release. This raises the question of what caused the game to be delayed by over two years in Europe? Perhaps that’s one of the training exercises.

That’s not all, Nintendo have also released a schedule with all the 3rd Party titles which are coming soon for 3DS and Wii U, though these do not have release dates listed.

It’s quite a big image so click it to see it in full!

SmashShot of the Day (30th July 2014)

For the past year, Smash Bros. Director, Masahiro Sakurai, has been showing off Smash Bros. glory by uploading a screenshot from the upcoming instalments for 3DS and Wii U nearly every day on Miiverse… that’s a whole lot of content for your eyeballs! Today is yet another Assist Trophy announcement in the form of another throwback!

zlCfzSO9O5Uqb99V2c

And here’s what Sakurai had to say!

If you get caught in the Boss Galaga item’s tractor beam, it will carry you away to the top of the screen. You can shoot it down, but it won’t join you in battle for double the firepower.

Talk about retro, it seems that one of the Galaga units will be making an appearance in Smash Bros. in the form of an Assist Trophy. Similar to the Beetle item, Galaga Boss will drag a player to the top of the screen. Unlike the Beetle however, there is a way to stop it… or that’s what I can gather from the quote. Also, the villagers look mighty pleased that Galaga Boss is taking away Donkey Kong with the tractor beam… taunting him as he is abducted!

Super Smash Bros. is set to be released for 3DS on the 13th September 2014 in Japan, 3rd October 2014 in Europe and North America, and a day later in Australia. The Wii U version is set to be released during Q4 2014.
