SmashShot of the Day (16th July 2014)

For the past year, Smash Bros. Director, Masahiro Sakurai, has been showing off Smash Bros. glory by uploading a screenshot from the upcoming instalments for 3DS and Wii U nearly every day on Miiverse… that’s a whole lot of content for your eyeballs! Yet another look at the newly announced characters from Monday takes the spotlight in todays pic!

Here’s what Sakurai said…

The Levin sword and tomes are Robin’s life lines. The Levin sword can be activated by using smash attacks–you can even activate these moves in midair! However, just like in the original game, the Levin sword can be used only a limited number of times before it breaks, at which point it takes some time to regenerate. When the Levin sword is unavailable, Robin fights using the bronze sword.

It seems that Robin will be borrowing some game mechanics from Fire Emblem Awakening. You can use this Levin sword for stronger attacks, though player beware as it only takes so many hits before it crumbles up into oblivion… but luckily it can be regenerated after some time to use again in battle. There’s another pic today too!

The way Robin launches Arcfire is kind of crazy—he or she calls down a bolt of flame from above, then launches a pillar of fire! By the way, Robin’s tome changes with each special attack.

This one focuses on another one of his/her moves. Do these fighter have the power of the Gods or something as these are crazy as @#$&! Seriously! Other than that, we can see yet another example of the detail being put into the game as Robin’s tomes will change colours depending on what attack is being executed! Hopefully tomorrow should see a picture which hasn’t to do with the Fire Emblem representatives as, personally, Nintendo have been a bit of an overkill with Fire Emblem in Smash Bros. recently [haha].

Super Smash Bros. is set to be released for 3DS on the 13th September 2014 in Japan, 3rd October 2014 in Europe and North America, and a day later in Australia. The Wii U version is set to be released during Q4 2014.

SmashShot of the Day (15th July 2014)

For the past year, Smash Bros. Director, Masahiro Sakurai, has been showing off Smash Bros. glory by uploading a screenshot from the upcoming instalments for 3DS and Wii U nearly every day on Miiverse… that’s a whole lot of content for your eyeballs! Today focuses, once again, on yesterday reveal and is a host of ‘My Sword Is Bigger Than Yours!’.

SmashShot 15/7/14

Here’s what Sakurai had to say on the matter…

Along with Robin, Lucina joins the battle!! Her physical ablilites are identical to Marth’s–it must be in her D.N.A. However, where Marth’s power is concentrated in the tip of the sword, Lucina’s attack strength is balanced throughout the weapon, which might make her easier to control. She’s also a little bit shorter than Marth.

So it seems that Lucina takes off after her ancestor as her move set is nearly identical to Marth’s, though where Marth’s power come from the tip of the sword, Lucina’s power is spread throughout the sword. Sakurai also mentions she is shorter than Marth. Though this may seem like simple teasing, this could mean that she is quicker on her feet.

But wait! That’s not all, as today isn’t a single feature, nor a double feature… it’s a triple feature today!

With the Wii Fit Trainers, the male and female Robins, the Villagers, and Little Mac, varying their appearances and voices works just like selecting alternate color variations. However, whenever there is even a small difference in abilities, that character gets an actual roster slot. That is why you can select Lucina individually.

Ii looks like we have a bit of a battle of the sexes here… also, an explanation on why Lucina receives her own roster slot when other Male/Female versions of fighters just count as alternate costumes.

By the way…there’s probably no chance you’ll be able to see this in the game, but Lucina has the mark of Naga in her left eye.

This one just demonstrates how much detail has gone into each and every character model within the new Smash Bros. games.

Two New Challengers Approach – Lucina and Robin!

You have all been waiting for it an oh boy did Nintendo deliver. Today, it was revealed, via live stream, that Lucina and Robin are the mystery Smash Bros. characters that Nintendo teased at the beginning of last weekend!

The video started of with Lucina, of Fire Emblem Awakening fame, battling the newly announced returning character Captain Falcon, from the F-Zero series, in an almighty duel. It all seems dim for Lucina when she gets thrown across the stage until Robin, also from Fire Emblem Awakening, floats into battle.

So that’s three characters revealed today, rather than the one Nintendo initially teased at. Not only that, but it seems you can also play as a female version of Robin if you wanted to!

So what did you think of today’s announcement? Did you guess the characters correctly? Are you disappointed? Let your voice be heard in the comments… also will Captain Falcon ever be returning to his own game… seriously, it’s been too long!

SmashShot of the Day (14th July 2014)

For the past year, Smash Bros. Director, Masahiro Sakurai, has been showing off Smash Bros. glory by uploading a screenshot from the upcoming instalments for 3DS and Wii U nearly every day on Miiverse… that’s a whole lot of content for your eyeballs! Today, we get what could be a hint, but is probably a troll.

Here’s what Sakurai had to say…

In order to make Rayman’s trophy, we asked Ubisoft to share their references. We were expecting to receive 2D drawing references for Rayman, but to our surprise, they sent us data of a brand new 3D model that they rendered for this game!! And that was how this trophy was created. It takes a lot of work creating each model, so it’s wonderful that the creators contributed their own efforts!!

An interesting story indeed, and one that shows Nintendo’s relationship with Ubisoft isn’t as dead as fans have claimed. We could see a lot more third-party characters than most expect. It also could be a hint at a third-party character reveal today, but that’s likely not the case — our money’s on Shulk.

SmashShot of the Day (11th July 2014)

For those of you who have been living under a rock for the past year, Smash Bros. Director, Masahiro Sakurai, has been showing off Smash Bros. glory by uploading a screenshot from the upcoming instalments for 3DS and Wii U nearly every day on MiiVerse… that’s a whole lot of visual content for your eyeballs! Today’s pic focuses on Pac-Man’s very big ego!

SmashShot 11/7/14

And this is what Sakurai had to say on the subject…

Pac-Man’s up taunt is known as Namco Roulette! Namco characters from the 1980s will randomly appear.

Everyone loves a good taunt, they’re good for teasing your opponent and feeding your ego. Well it seems that Pac-Man won’t be falling shy from taunting as his up taunt makes Pac-Man show off a character from an old Namco game. Today is yet another double feature as Sakurai posted another photo with another comment!

See? There’s a variety of characters. Huh? One of them looks pretty recent.

Super Smash Bros. is set to be released on the 13th September 2014 in Japan, 3rd October 2014 in Europe and North America, and a day later in Australia for 3DS. The Wii U version is set to be released during Q4 2014.

Nintendo To Announce New Smash Character On Monday

Monday’s are seen as the worst day of the week by the majority of the world, followed by Tuesday’s, then every other day until Friday. Well it looks like Nintendo have something exciting in store to rid you of those weekend blues this coming Monday!

Today, Nintendo announced that they will be revealing a brand new playable character in the upcoming Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U on Monday 14th July 2014. This will be revealed in the form of a 3 minute long video which will be streamed live [think of it as a Super Mini Direct]!

Sakurai had this to say, which also suggests there aren’t that many characters left to reveal, over on Miiverse…

Oh, by the way! I’d like to reveal a new challenger. Instead of doing the unveiling on something like a Nintendo Direct, we’re going to live-stream the reveal on the official website on Monday, July 14, at 7:00 AM US Pacific Time (4:00 PM European Central Time). Looks like we’re nearing the bottom of the stash of new challenger videos that we’ve made… Like always, we put a lot of effort into it, so I hope you’ll enjoy watching it live.

So, who do you think this mystery character will be?
