REVIEW – Mario Kart 64 (Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack)
If the question was “Name a chaotic racing game that is almost guaranteed to make you lose friends”, the answer would almost certainly be “Mario Kart”. As the years go by, this only rings more true as the series has been incredibly creative in finding innovative ways to make the game fun for players of all levels. Mario Kart 64, originally released back in 1996, was the first 3D outing for the series and has now finally made its debut on the Nintendo Switch via the “Nintendo Switch Online (NSO) + Expansion Pack”. (more…)REVIEW – Game & Watch: The Legend of Zelda
Last year, I had the pleasure of reviewing the excellent Super Mario Bros. Game & Watch system to celebrate the thirty-fifth anniversary of the beloved plumber. This year, it’s the turn of the hero in a green tunic, as we celebrate three and a half decades of adventuring through Hyrule and beyond, with The Legend of Zelda Game & Watch system from Nintendo.
There are many similarities between last year’s Super Mario Bros. release, and it comes just in time for the holiday season. But how does this one compare? Is it the perfect gift for that Zelda fan in your life? Or a crushing disappointment that makes the CDi games look like a masterpiece? Let’s go on an adventure…
(more…)REVIEW – Animal Crossing: New Horizons – Happy Home Paradise
Animal Crossing is simply one of those titles Nintendo fans crave every generation. When New Horizons first released in March 2020, it took the world by storm. Most of us were in lockdown and it provided the perfect escape from reality people needed at the time. Now the best selling title in the Animal Crossing series, New Horizons is receiving its first paid downloadable content.

(more…)REVIEW – Mario Party Superstars
Back in 1999 (within the UK), Mario and his friends started a feud that would last the next twenty-two years. It wasn’t about who has the best-groomed stache, who got kidnapped by a Koopa King the most, or which dinosaur paid the least amount of taxes… wait, what? Instead, the feud was, and still is, about who the biggest star is, the Super Star!
Mushroom Village beckons once again after all these years to continue the feud once more in Mario Party Superstars, this time allowing us to party like it’s the 90’s all over again. Will this party be the ultimate Super Star, or will it become a forgotten fashion faux pas that should’ve remained in 1999? Find out in our review, after the break!
(more…)REVIEW – Nintendo Switch OLED Model
Half a decade ago, Nintendo unveiled the Nintendo Switch, the successor to the Wii U that, unbeknown to us then, would quickly lift them out of the dry patch caused by their struggling console. Not to say that the Wii U was bad, in fact, I absolutely adore mine and hosted some amazing titles, it just didn’t sell very well or got frequent enough support from other developers.
The past five years have seen a range of fantastic titles and a new way to play, touting its ability to be used on a TV screen or on the go. The console also received a hardware variation back in 2019, the Nintendo Switch Lite, which introduced a handheld only console for those always on the go with a smaller budget. In addition to the Lite, a revised model was released earlier that year with an improved battery and more efficient CPU.
This year introduced another new version in the form of the Nintendo Switch OLED Model. This upgrade includes features such as a larger screen, crisper visuals, improved audio, and more. Will this new model shine bright in the hands of gamers, or is it nothing more than a dull glimmer of an upgrade? Find out in our review, after the break!
(more…)REVIEW – Metroid Dread
It has been nineteen years since Metroid Fusion, the last game in the series to actually take place at the end of the Metroid timeline. While it hasn’t been nearly as long since the last game, being 2017’s Metroid: Samus Returns, Metroid Dread marks the first time an original game in the series since 2010’s Metroid: Other M in the original continuity (though the Prime series has had Metroid Prime: Federation Force in 2016). It’s been a mighty long wait for fans of the 2D series too, with fourteen years since Metroid Zero Mission. Speculation already began in 2006 when listings for “Metroid Dread” started circulating in various outlets, implied to be for the Nintendo DS. With all this time to ponder over the possibilities, the time is finally upon us, has the wait for Metroid Dread been worth it?
